A youth from Navelim in Salcete taluka was allegedly beaten up by Siolim locals on Thursday afternoon believing him to be murder accused Ranjit Tuyekar.

MAPUSA: A youth from Navelim in Salcete taluka was allegedly beaten up by Siolim locals on Thursday afternoon believing him to be murder accused Ranjit Tuyekar.
The youth was handed over to the police after a search revealed that he was in possession of ganja.
Anil Pujari, a resident of Navelim, was found moving suspiciously in Sodiem, in Siolim. He was caught by the locals and beaten up.

Later, they found that he was in possession of 4 grams of ganja, police sources informed. The youth was later handed over to the Mapusa police for further investigations.
Over the last several weeks, rumours of the presence of Ranjit Tuyekar, 26, were doing the rounds in the Bardez and Pernem talukas.
A similar incident was reported in Arambol where locals thrashed a 55-year-old man from Pernem Mahadev Jadhav mistakenly assuming that he was the Assagao murder accused, Ranjit Tuyekar.
The victim was so badly assaulted that he suffered severe injuries and had to be admitted to the Goa medical college (GMC) and hospital at Bambolim.
A similar incident was also reported in Khorlim in Mapusa, where locals chased an unknown person after a girl complained that while she was walking home from school, a man wearing a mask, blue jeans and a black T-shirt tried to attack her.
