Kishan Kumar bids emotional farewell to DGP post

Speaking at his farewell function, Kumar said that the time has gone when things were very quiet in Goa, now a lot of influx is there as in different parts of the world and country.

PANAJI: Outgoing director general of police (DGP) Kishan Kumar said that the state is facing challenges from terrorism, cyber crime and white collar crime and police should keep abreast with new development, new techniques so that they can march along with other forces in the country. Speaking at his farewell function, Kumar said that the time has gone when things were very quiet in Goa, now a lot of influx is there as in different parts of the world and country. He also said that the state is facing new problems, new challenges."One of more important challenges which the world is facing is terrorism and Goa is an island of peace but no one should take us for granted and we should ensure that our nature of living in peace and harmony is not considered our weakness," Kumar said. Police have to be alert with the new challenges of terrorism, cyber crime and increasing crime in new areas. A new addition is white collar crime. Kumar appreciated the work of the Goa police. He said that the Goa police is one of the best forces in the country. He added that there is a lot of scope for improvement.Kumar served Goa police for 27 months as DGP. He will be replaced by T N Mohan, the new DGP. Kumar was posted as DGP Goa in December, 2011.
Immediately after he became an IPS officer, Kumar was posted to Goa in 1982 as SDPO, Vasco. In 2007 he was posted at inspector general of police (IGP).Kumar in his emotional speech said that Mohan would be taking charge from him in Goa for a second time. The first time was when Mohan took charge as SP training and now as DGP Goa. Mohan is likely to arrive in Goa on Tuesday and will immediately take over charge as DGP Goa.
