Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin, focusing on global economic challenges and their impact. According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while the two leaders were aware of international developments, including concerns over U.S. tariffs, their discussions centred on bilateral cooperation. They explored ways to strengthen economic and commercial ties between India and China in the face of evolving global conditions. On trade, both leaders agreed to boost investment and address the trade deficit. Misri also confirmed that PM Modi extended an invitation to President Xi to attend the 2026 BRICS Summit in India, highlighting continued efforts to deepen engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
