Kankonkar assault: Zenito gets HC notice

Panaji: The Bombay high court issued a notice to Zenito Cardozo in an appeal by the state against his release on bail in the attempt to murder case involving activist Rama Kankonkar.

A special court in Oct last year rejected bail to Cardozo, citing a threat to Kankonkar’s life, but in Dec, after the chargesheet was filed, the court granted him conditional bail.


Cardozo, 36, was arrested on Sep 22 under various charges, including the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, for allegedly assaulting Kankonkar in a daylight attack that included caste-based abuse and smearing cow dung on the victim’s face at Caranzalem.
