Justice Rebello to hold public meetings in Mapusa and Margao
Panaji: The ‘people’s movement’ by former Allahabad high court chief justice Ferdino Rebello will see two public meetings in Mapusa and Margao on Jan 14 and 15 respectively. The meetings aim to discuss a proposed 10-point charter and build a broad-based, non-political citizens’ movement across the state.Justice Rebello said the upcoming interactions intend to deepen public understanding of several issues plaguing Goa and to bring together activists, NGOs and concerned citizens under a common platform.

Explaining the rationale behind multiple meetings, justice Rebello told TOI that for any meaningful movement to succeed, people must clearly understand the issues at hand. “No movement can go forward unless people understand what the issue is, and unless we have groups working with us everywhere,” he said.He also emphasised the importance of consolidating the efforts of activists who fought various public causes over the years. “Our idea is to create a database and build an organisational structure so that future struggles are not isolated,” he said.
