PONDA: A couple from Jharkhand, who were in love with each other but afraid to marry due to stiff opposition from family members, tied the knot at the Ponda police station on Saturday afternoon. The young couple got married by the 'ghandarva vivah' (wedding by mutual exchange of garlands) method under the protection of the Ponda police.
Ponda police inspector C L Patil said the girl, Sunita Kumari, who was working as a domestic maid at Panaji, had come to him and had informed the police that although they were in love their family members were not allowing them to get married.

She asked the cops to help them .
“On a request from the young couple, we have completed their wedding ceremony and the couple will soon leave for their native Jharkhand,'' Patil said. Patil added that the 'ghandharva vivah,' marriage was permitted by Hindu rituals. It involves a mutual exchange of garlands and it does not require the presence of any priest to solemnize the marriage.
