Ponda: While Sanket Satarkar, 20, a Farmagudi ITI (Industrial training institute) trainee succumbed to his accident injuries, his friend Kiran Naik, 19, also an ITI trainee was severely injured on Thursday. Naik has been admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital GMC at Bambolim for treatment.
The duo was proceeding to Ponda from Farmagudi on a two-wheeler when a speeding truck knocked them down and fled the scene.
Ponda police said Satarkar was a resident of Konem-Priol in Ponda taluka and Naik is a resident of Parshuram Nagar-Ponda. The accident took place 200m from the latter’s residence.
“At the GVM college circle, the truck hit the bike and the two trainees were knocked down. Since the bike was speeding, it skid for about 20m causing severe injuries to the duo,” police said, quoting witnesses.
Police rushed them to Ponda sub-district hospital from where they were referred to the GMC. Satarkar died on arrival while Naik was admitted for treatment.
Police said that an autopsy would be conducted on Friday. Ponda police HC Vinod Salunkhe conducted the panchanama of the accident.
