Gzb set to get another animal birth control centre in Feb

Ghaziabad: A new Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre for the sterilisation of dogs is coming up near the new bus stand in Ghaziabad. The centre is expected to be ready by Feb 15 next year. A proposal for building the third ABC in Vijayanagar has been sent to the govt. Meanwhile, the process has begun for selecting an agency for the already running centre in Nandi Park. A tender has been floated for the same. Presently, an ABC center is operational in Nandi Park, where sterilisation, treatment and anti-rabies vaccination of more than 700 dogs is being done every month. The agency which is running this ABC centre is about to complete its tenure. The new agency will take over between Aug and Sept. After the second centre is built, approximately 100 dogs can be sterilised every day. Deputy chief veterinary and welfare officer Dr Anuj said that the third centre will be the largest of all. Its Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been sent to the govt. In 2020, the city had an estimated population of about 48,000 stray dogs under the municipal limits. Animal activists had said that sterilisation lagged behind, given the rising population of stray dogs.

17 attacks by stray dogs in one year on beaches

Seventeen people, including 13 lifeguards, were attacked by stray dogs on Goa's beaches between 2023 and 2024, stated tourism minister Rohan Khaunte. No compensation was provided. The South Goa collector has directed the department of animal husbandry to propose measures such as dog shelters, sterilisation drives, awareness programs, and NGO funding for dog feeding initiatives.

Gujarat sets rules for housing societies for pets and stray dogs

A circular from the Gujarat Registrar of Cooperative Societies called for housing societies to stop violence and harassment against community animals and their caregivers. It emphasized humane animal management methods, proper nutrition, and sterilization procedures. The decision aimed to ease conflicts between animal caregivers and other residents, ensuring legal action against abusers. Animal welfare advocates welcomed the new regulations.

Himachal Minister slams Union Budget, says every state has right to Centre's resources

Himachal Pradesh's revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi criticized the Union Budget, deeming it biased towards states with BJP allies, such as Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Negi highlighted the absence of disaster management funds for Himachal Pradesh despite extensive flood damage.
