Ghaziabad: Two people, including a 19-year-old, lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries after a bike collided with a scooter in the Muradnagar area around 2pm on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Shahnawaz alias Sonu (19) and Jahangir (28), both from Pasonda. The injured men were identified as Nizaam (28), also a resident of Pasonda, and Arshad (53), from Meerut.
According to DCP (Rural) Vivek Yadav, Sonu, Jahangir, and Nizaam were traveling towards Meerut on a single bike. They were all riding without helmets and the bike was going at a high speed, the DCP said. Arshad, meanwhile, was on his way to Delhi.
Eyewitnesses told cops that the driver of the bike did not notice the scooter approaching them on the two-way road — thus resulting in a head-on collision between the two vehicles. Both Sonu and Jahnagir died on the spot, the DCP said.
Passersby informed cops and a police team along with medical support reached the spot soon after. All four were brought to a nearby hospital. Nizaam is currently in a critical condition while Arshad suffered a fractured leg and other injuries, he added.
In another incident, a bus traveling from Bijnor to Delhi airport, which had passengers on their way for Hajj on-board, met with an
accident on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME).
The bus collided with a parked truck around 3.30am early on Friday and 14 people sustained minor injuries in the incident, police said.
DCP Yadav said a truck had been parked adjacent to the DME just 3km from the Hawa Hawai restaurant. The bus hit the parked truck from behind. Emergency services were called to the scene and all injured passengers were brought to a nearby hospital.
“All people received minor injuries and they were discharged after initial treatment,” he said.
No police complaint has been received in either of the cases so far.
