NEW DELHI: A young man was shot dead in high-security Delhi Cantonment while returning home late on Sunday night. Twenty-two-year-old Clive, aka Kali, who worked in an Army canteen, was shot a few metres away from his home.
“Clive had gone out to party with three of his friends—Suraj, Vivek and Gaurav. The incident took place close to an hour later, around 11:30pm.

Vivek had dropped Clive who lived in staff quarters at Chitral Lines. Clive was walking towards his house when some men arrived in a car and shot him in the chest,” said a senior police officer. Clive was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital by Vivek even while eyewitnesses hurried to his house to inform his family members.
“A boy came running to our house and informed us about the incident. We rushed to hospital around 11.50 but he had passed away by then. Locals who witnessed the shooting told us that the assailants had come in a white Swift. There were three men inside the car. One of them—he had his face covered—got out of the vehicle and shot Clive. The car then sped away and hit an Army barricade some 100 metres from the spot. The Cantonment area is considered to be one of the safest in the capital. My brother had no enemies and has never been involved in crime,” said Robert, elder brother of the deceased.
However, none of the family members or friends informed police about the incident. A call to the police control room was made by the hospital staff around 2.10am. Clive’s father is a retired Indian Air Force employee and his mother works as a nurse in the Army Base Hospital.
Police suspect the assailants were known to Clive. “We have registered a case and the accused will be nabbed very soon,” the officer said.
