NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old man has been arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport for allegedly impersonating a Delhi Police sub-inspector using forged documents and an ID card, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, Sahil Kumar, a resident of Ladpur in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, was wearing a T-shirt bearing the Delhi Police logo when he was detained by CISF personnel during routine checks at Terminal-3 on Monday.
“He failed to give satisfactory answers about his posting and was evasive. On checking, a suspicious Delhi Police ID card and other documents like a fake appointment letter and case diaries were found in his possession,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani.
Kumar, who was residing with a relative in Rohini while preparing for competitive exams, allegedly used the fake identity to befriend and impress women, including actual Delhi Police personnel. During questioning, he admitted to fabricating the ID and appointment letter using Photoshop skills and had purchased uniform accessories from the Camp area in Delhi.
Police said his phone contained several photos of him in uniform. One woman confirmed that he had introduced himself as a 2024-batch Delhi Police SI posted at IGI.
A case has been registered and further probe is underway to determine if he used the fake identity for other criminal activities.
