NGT seeks report on illegal borewells

New Delhi: National Green Tribunal has sought a comprehensive report from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) on allegations of illegal borewell operations in a residential society in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase-I. The tribunal has also asked the district administration and Delhi Jal Board to submit an action taken report.A local resident filed a complaint alleging that several borewells are illegally operating at a society in the area. The bench headed by Justice Prakash Shrivastava observed that the complaint was made to the area SDM, CGWA and DJB in April, but no effective action has been taken. The bench has asked the CGWA, SDM, and DJB to file reports before the next hearing on Aug 7.
