New Delhi: A court on Friday sent accused Rahul Meena to four days’ judicial custody in connection with the killing of an IRS officer's daughter in southeast Delhi.
The prosecution had sought additional time to complete key aspects of the investigation, including a gait analysis test and recovery of two mobile phones belonging to the victim's parents. “We need to trace the phones in Palam, the accused had misled us during the first custody," police told the court.
The prosecution also submitted that Meena needed to be confronted with additional facts and evidence as part of the investigation.
Opposing the plea for further remand, the defence had claimed that the pending recovery and the forensic analysis could be completed in two days and extended custody was unnecessary. However, judicial magistrate first class Deepika Thakran extended the judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the jail superintendent filed a reply before the court regarding allegations that Meena was assaulted by fellow inmates while in custody. The court noted from the report that the inmates concerned had expressed remorse over the incident.
After the defence sought his regular medical examinations to ensure that he was not subjected to any further assault, the court directed the jail authorities to file Meena’s medical reports in a timely manner.
