BJP, AAP clash over HC’s remarks in excise policy case

New Delhi: After Delhi High Court sought the stand of ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal, deputy CM Manish Sisodia and others discharged in a liquor policy case, BJP functionaries hit out at AAP on Monday. The court stated that observations by the special court against witnesses and approvers prima facie "appear erroneous".

"AAP started its political journey in the name of fighting corruption, but its claim of being ‘kattar imaandar' is being exposed. If the liquor policy was correct, why were a large number of mobile phones and SIM cards destroyed?" minister Ashish Sood said during a press conference.


On Feb 27, the trial court discharged Kejriwal, Sisodia and 21 others, pulling up CBI by stating that its case was "wholly unable to survive judicial scrutiny and stood discredited in its entirety".

"Earlier too, several scam-accused leaders such as Lalu Prasad Yadav, A Raja and Kanimozhi were discharged by lower courts and they celebrated briefly, but many received major punishments later," said BJP functionary Sachdeva.

AAP functionary and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh stated that the order of the Rouse Avenue Court which discharged Kejriwal and others remained "intact". "It is a big setback for CBI that the high court did not place any stay on the decision of the lower court. Therefore, the order of the Rouse Avenue CBI court remains intact. We will take the complete details of the hearing in the high court from the lawyers and prepare the next strategy accordingly," Singh said.
