Accessibility simulation zone at Divya Kala Mela: Experiential learning for inclusive India
India’s leading accessibility organization Svayam has taken part as a participant in Divya Kala Mela, being held from 13th to 21st December 2025 at India Gate, New Delhi, a signature national event that celebrates the creativity, entrepreneurial skills, and artistic talents of Divyangjan from across the country.
The major attraction of Svayam's stall at this mela is its Accessibility Simulation Zone which will allow visitors to personally engage with challenges and solutions relating to accessibility. Such interactive setups as the ones curated by Svayam at major national events in the past, evoke empathy, deepen the understanding, and raise much-needed awareness about the lived experiences of people with different needs for accessibility. First-hand simulation will make the attendees better appreciate real-world accessibility concerns and the need for inclusive design in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Sminu Jindal, Founder-Chairperson of Svayam and MD, Jindal SAW Ltd. said, "Inclusive spaces are not an ideal but a need. Events like the Divya Kala Mela not only celebrate the extraordinary talents of Divyangjan, but also afford an opportunity for the general public to learn about accessibility in meaningful, experiential ways. Our Accessibility Simulation Zone aims to sensitize visitors at the Mela to a common barrier faced by many individuals and to inspire stakeholders across sectors to build an environment in which every person can participate with dignity and independence, keeping the urgent need for accessible infrastructure integration in mind”.
Organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, The Divya Kala Mela brings to its fore a wide range of assistive technology showcases, handicrafts, handlooms, fashion, home décor, packaged foods, and other handmade products created by skilled Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs for an immersive experience of skill, culture, and enterprise. Espousing the Government of India's vision of inclusion, economic opportunity, and self-reliance for persons with disabilities, the Mela furthers the Vocal for Local initiative through its emphasis on products and innovations created upon local craft traditions.
