Roorkee: A 35-year-old plumber was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly repeatedly raping his 15-year-old daughter over the past several months in Haridwar. The accused also threatened to kill the survivor if she didn't keep silent.
Police said the matter surfaced on Monday after the accused allegedly attempted to sexually assault the survivor’s 14-year-old younger sister. Disturbed by the incident, the elder daughter finally narrated the ordeal to her mother.
Police said the accused then assaulted his wife and allegedly tried to set the house on fire. However, the fire was immediately extinguished by family members and neighbours. The accused subsequently fled.
Following a complaint by the survivor’s mother on Monday, police registered a case against the accused under BNS sections 64(2)(d) and 64(2)(c) pertaining to
rape of an aggravated nature, section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, section 351(3) for criminal intimidation, section 75(2) for physical contact and unwelcome sexual advances, and section 6 of the
Pocso Act dealing with aggravated penetrative sexual assault.
The accused was later arrested from a hideout in the village and produced before a local court.
The local police station in-charge said the accused works as a plumber and has three children, including a 17-year-old son, the 15-year-old victim and her younger sister.
