Dehradun: Residents of Block D in Chironwali area fear another season of severe waterlogging as the monsoon approaches, citing poor drainage infrastructure and the absence of proper outlets for rainwater.
Residents said even moderate rainfall led to water accumulation in front of houses and across narrow lanes, with stagnant water often remaining for hours. They said rapid construction and shrinking open spaces in recent years had worsened the problem by blocking natural drainage paths.

“Before so many buildings came up, water used to drain out naturally. Now there is no space left for it,” said resident Rajbir Singh Pal. He said authorities should have ensured proper drainage and road levelling before allowing large-scale construction in the locality.
Another resident said water levels during the monsoon often rose up to knee height and sometimes entered houses. “It becomes dangerous for us. There is also a risk of waterborne diseases because of stagnant water,” she said.

Ward councillor Alpana Rana said the area needed a slope of nearly 3 feet to improve water flow. “The issue was raised during a meeting with the MLA a few days ago. A junior engineer will visit the site and take the plan forward,” she said.
