Dehradun: Kalpana Saini, the BJP nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat, filed her nomination papers in the Uttarakhand assembly on Tuesday. The chief of the state’s OBC panel, Saini is likely to be elected unopposed as Congress does not have the required numbers in the state assembly. She is set to be the second woman to represent the hill state in the upper house of the Parliament after Congress's Manorama Dobriyal Sharma, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2014.
On Tuesday, Saini filed the documents in the office of assembly secretary Mukesh Singhal.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, state chief Madan Kaushik, minister Prem Chand Aggarwal along with other senior BJP leaders were present on the occasion. Voting for the RS seat is due on June 10.
