Awas Vikas official caught accepting 10k bribe

RUDRAPUR: A vigilance team from Haldwani arrested Mukesh Kumar, a contractual sanitation worker at the Awas Vikas office in Jaspur, Udham Singh Nagar district while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a man seeking a transfer certificate for purchased land on Friday evening.The complaint came from the victim who reported the incident to the Vigilance Establishment Sector in Haldwani. The complainant had recently acquired a plot of land in Awas Vikas Rudrapur, and the accused, Kumar, allegedly demanded a bribe to facilitate the transfer certificate process.Dr V Marugesan, the director of vigilance, said, “Upon receiving the complaint, a team initiated an investigation. We took immediate action, leading to Kumar’s arrest during a transaction at the office in Jaspur.”During a subsequent search of Kumar’s rented accommodation, Rs 3,91,200 was seized. The accused is undergoing interrogation, and a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act will be registered.
