Women stage road roko to protest stoppage of drinking water supply
Krishnagiri: More than 50 women from Kudimenahalli village in Kudimenahalli panchayat near Pochampally on Wednesday blocked Agaram Road with empty pots in protest against not supplying drinking water for the past three months. The village houses more than 300 families. The residents said no drinking water was supplied to them either from Thenpennai river or from Hogenakkal integrated drinking water scheme in the past three months. "While panchayat officials promised to take steps to provide drinking water after the election, they didn't keep their word," said J Lakshmi, a villager. The road blockade brought traffic to a standstill on Pochampally-Krishnagiri stretch for about an hour. When alerted, the Parur police reached the spot, held talks with the women protestors and assured them that they would take steps to provide drinking water by Thursday. The protestors subsequently ended the road roko and dispersed, allowing traffic to resume on the stretch.
