Man arrested for damaging Gobichettipalayam temple properties
ERODE: The Gobichettipalayam police in Erode district arrested a man on Wednesday for damaging the properties of a temple.The arrested man has been identified as S Ganesan, 65, of Ambika Nagar. There is a Ganesha temple near his house which was constructed and managed by some residents. "Ganesan had issues with the noise produced during puja and festival times at the temple," said Gobichettipalayam police inspector C S Tamilarasu. Several items in the temple, including glasses and lamps, were found damaged on July 31. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, temple treasurer K Shanmugam, 47, found that Ganesan was responsible for the damage and confronted him. "Ganesan threatened to kill Shanmugam," the inspector said.Threatened, Shanmugam filed a complaint against Ganesan on Tuesday evening, providing CCTV footage as evidence. Based on this evidence, the Gobichettipalayam police arrested Ganesan for disrupting religious harmony by damaging the temple properties. He was remanded in judicial custody.
