Drone operations banned in Coimbatore in view of Vice-President’s visit

By Wafia HasanthCOIMBATORE: The city police have tightened security ahead of Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan’s visit to Coimbatore on Jan 15. Drone operations have been prohibited from Jan 14.According to a press release from the Coimbatore district administration, several parts of the district have been declared temporary red zones, and a complete ban on drone operations has been imposed. The restrictions will be in force from 8am on Jan 14 to 10pm on Jan 15.The areas under the temporary red zone include Peelamedu, KMCH, Chinniyampalayam, Singanallur, SIHS Colony, Irugur, A G Puthur, Codissia Commercial Complex, Cheran Maa Nagar, Sitra, Nehru Nagar, Kalapatti, Hope College, Neelambur, Race Course and Nava India along with the existing red zone areas and nearby localities within the city limits.

The district collector has warned of strict legal action against anyone who violates the ban by flying drones or other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the restricted period. Citizens and drone operators have been asked to follow the instructions and cooperate with the authorities.
