Police investigating break-in as crash probe continues

According to police records, deputies in Iredell County, located outside Charlotte, responded to reports of a break-in at Biffle’s home on January 8. When officers arrived, they found signs of forced entry. Investigators later discovered that around $30,000 in cash had been stolen from a damaged safe inside the house. The police report also stated that a backpack, several firearms, and pieces of racing memorabilia were taken during the burglary. Authorities believe the home had been properly secured just a day earlier, suggesting the break-in happened within a short time window.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell confirmed that no arrests have been made so far. He explained that investigators are actively working the case and are waiting on digital evidence to move things forward. Officers are also conducting interviews as part of the ongoing investigation. While the burglary case unfolds, aviation officials are still trying to determine what caused the deadly crash. The Cessna C550 aircraft was reportedly in the air for only about ten minutes before turning back toward the runway. As it attempted to land, the plane burst into flames upon touching down, killing everyone on board. The National Transportation Safety Board is now examining why the pilots made a sudden and unusual U-turn shortly after takeoff. Emergency calls from witnesses described the aircraft exploding into a massive fireball, leaving no chance of survival.Biffle was one of three passengers on the plane who held a pilot’s license. Since retiring from NASCAR, he had developed a strong interest in flying and even helped with helicopter rescue efforts during Hurricane Helene in 2024.Greg Biffle and the six other victims have already been laid to rest in emotional services. A public memorial for all seven victims is scheduled to take place at a Charlotte arena on Friday morning.
