COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police have arrested a carpenter for stealing 20 sovereigns of gold from a house near Sundarapuram.
The arrested man has been identified as P Mathavan, 38, of Kamaraj Nagar near Sundarapuram. Mathavan had been working at P Daniel's house at SIDCO for the past three months. On Thursday, while carrying out carpentry work in a bedroom, he noticed the wardrobe key. When no one was around, he took the key and stole the gold ornaments kept inside the wardrobe.
Upon noticing the gold jewellery missing from the wardrobe, Daniel's son, Kevin, filed a complaint with the Sundarapuram police on Thursday evening. Following this, the police detained Mathavan and interrogated him. During questioning, Mathavan confessed to the crime. The police recovered 20 sovereigns of gold from Mathavan.
