Donald Trump may visit India for the Quad Summit later this year. At his Senate confirmation hearing, Sergio Gor, Trump’s nominee as US Ambassador to India, revealed that the president is “fully committed” to meeting Quad leaders and that discussions are underway for a possible India visit. This comes after reports last month suggested Trump had dropped plans to attend. Gor emphasized that Trump shares a “deep friendship” with PM Modi, despite recent trade frictions, and hinted that a tariff deal may not be far away. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted India’s rising importance in the Indo-Pacific, saying the 21st century story will be “written with India at the core.” He stressed that Gor’s direct access to Trump could make him one of the most influential US envoys to Delhi. As Washington recalibrates
