CHENNAI: He eats, drinks and sleeps cricket. Now it's KR Ramakrishnan's turn to sing cricket as well.
After setting up a cricket Ganesh temple a few years back, Ramakrishnan, a company secretary by profession, has now brought out a trilingual music album on the game which consists of 62 Hindi, six English and eight Tamil songs.
"It's my love of the game that made me set up the temple.
Now these songs in the album called Centurion are virtually a follow-up of that. I have composed bhajans for Ganesha where I try to bring in elements of cricket," Ramakrishnan said.
In March, he had brought out an album called Cricket 70, where he paid tributes to Sachin Tendulkar for his records.
"In this album too, I have songs dedicated to Sachin's exploits on the field," the musician added.
The Centurion also pays tribute to former cricketers Polly Umrigar, Chandu Borde, Sunil Gavaskar, Ajit Wadekar, Kapil Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly. "There are also songs about such great feats like like Anil Kumble's 10-wicket haul against Pakistan, India's famous Test win against West Indies in 1976 at Trinidad, Kapil's 175-run knock against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup and Bapu Nadkarni's famous spell against England in Chennai in 1964 when he didn't concede a run for 131 balls," Ramakrishnan informed.
"I tried to recollect those unforgettable moments. I hope my listeners love these songs," Ramakrishnan said.
The avatar songs (Nos: 55 & 60) in Hindi and English portray the "allround skills of the Lord. He is the man who is showering his blessings on the players to set up India's victories. While the Indian cricket team song talks about the current stars, there is a number where I have tried to remember all those dull draws of yesteryears."
The songs also talk about the technique, principles, strategy and the spirit of the game.
"It's basically an amalgamation of my devoution to god and the game. I hope the youngsters like it," Ramakrishnan said with the belief that he will be able to come up with many such unique projects in the future.
