Chennai: Nobel laureate and member of the economic advisory council to the chief minister,
Tamil Nadu, Esther Duflo on Tuesday called on chief minister
M K Stalin at his Chennai residence.
During her discussion with the chief minister, Duflo had wished the state government for its firm commitment to adopt data and resource-based approach to policy decisions and government investments.
“She congratulated the government for accepting the recommendation to reform the social security pension scheme for the poor in the state and increased the financial allocation for the old age pension scheme and the pension for the differently-abled,” an official release said. She stressed the significance of ensuring a strong safety net for the most vulnerable sections of the population, especially the elders living alone.
Duflo congratulated the government’s Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme that had been extending essential services at the doorstep.
