Chennai: Tamil Nadu state marketing corporation (Tasmac) decided to postpone the implementation of empty liquor bottle buyback scheme in Chennai and a few other districts until the Assembly elections, to allow for the workers' dissent to subside and to ensure that liquor sales are not affected.
Chennai and the Tiruvallur East region, where the scheme is yet to be implemented, generate around two lakh bottles every day. Currently, Tasmac bar owners collect the empty bottles and sell them to recycling plants.
