'Massive breach of trust': Udhayanidhi Stalin blasts Vijay govt over 'diluted' crop loan waiver

CHENNAI: Former deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin slammed the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government saying that chief minister C Joseph Vijay-led TVK govt cheated farmers by diluting its poll promise on complete crop loan waiver.

“Now, they are carrying out a scam in the name of crop loan waiver. Should people mentally prepare themselves for more such deceptions from the CM?” former deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin said on Monday.



In a post on X, Udhayanidhi said TVK, during the election campaign, had promised a complete waiver of crop loans for farmers owning up to five acres of land. However, the government had now announced full waiver only for loans up to Rs 50,000, which is an "injustice to farmers and a massive breach of trust”.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) youth wing secretary said the ruling party had similarly gone back on its promise of free electricity.

Recalling the 200 units free power poll promise given by TVK and later imposing conditions excluding consumers using more than 500 units,
Udhayanidhi said the latest announcement on crop loan waiver reflected a continuing pattern in the implementation of the ruling party’s electoral assurances.
