Gen Bipin Rawat Chopper Crash Live Updates: Lone survivor IAF Group Captain Varun Singh shifted to Bengaluru Command Hospital

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh and national security advisor Ajit Dobhal paid tributes to chief of defence staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brig LS Lidder and other defence personnel killed in the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. The mortal remains of the victims were brought to Palam Airbase in Delhi in an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft at around 7.35pm. Officials said bodies of only Gen Rawat, Madhulika Rawat and Brig Lidder could be identified so far. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates:

Mi17V5 is advanced transport helicopter with IAF since 2012
The Mi17V5 helicopter, which crashed with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat and 13 other people onboard on Wednesday, is an advanced military transport chopper that has been with the Indian Air Force (IAF) since 2012. Manufactured by Russian Helicopters' subsidiary Kazan, the helicopter has an onboard weather radar and is equipped with the latest generation of night vision devices. It also has the new PKV-8 autopilot system and a KNEI-8 avionics suite. It can carry a maximum take off weight of 13,000 kg and maximum payload weight of 4,000kg. (PTI)

Sources have said that 13 of the 14 passengers are confirmed dead.
