Youth takes on eve-teaser, killed

CHANDIGARH: Varinder Singh, alias Rocky, 24, of Kajheri village, Sector 61, was stabbed to death by a student of Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management, Sector 42, near his residence around 11 am on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Sanju of Samalkha in Panipat district, has been arrested and will be produced in the district courts, Sector 17, on Friday.He was residing in a rented accommodation in Kajheri near the victim's house.
Police said a tussle between the two over eve-teasing led to the incident.
Sub-inspector Maninder Singh said, "Sanju had allegedly misbehaved with the sister of Sohan Singh, who is Varinder's friend. To teach him a lesson, Varinder, an employee of a private company installing CCTV cameras, and Sohan went to Sanju's place and slapped him. Enraged, Sanju went to his house, returned with two knives and stabbed Varinder."
Navdeep Singh, younger brother of the deceased, said, "When I came to know about the incident, I rushed to nab Sanju, but he had escaped. Varinder was taken to Government Multispeciality Hospital, Sector 16, but doctors declared him brought dead."
DSP (south) B S Negi said Varinder had received injuries in his stomach. A murder case has been registered.
The incident has shocked Kajheri villagers. Sukhdeep Singh, an area resident, said, "The stabbing took place near my house and that too in broad daylighta?¦ it is horrifying."
