Youth meet at DCRUST under Haryana assembly aegis
Chandigarh: To prepare and inspire the next generation for future challenges and governance, an inspirational youth conference on ‘Principles and Features of the Constitution and Functions of the Legislature' was held at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, under the aegis of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha on Saturday.Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Harivansh participated as the chief guest at this conference and called upon the youth to play an active role in nation building. He appreciated the role of Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan for organising programmes such as capacity building schemes for secretariat officers, legislative drafting workshops, municipal body representatives' conferences, media dialogues, and Youth Parliament for the youth.Harivansh said Haryana is a state brimming with youth power, and the youth here have made their mark at the national and international level in sports, agriculture, security, entrepreneurship, and cultural fields. Addressing the youth, he said that if they move forward with firm determination and set goals in their lives, they can not only shape their own future but also take the country to new heights.Referring to the thoughts of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Dr Rajendra Prasad, he said that if national interest is kept supreme, any system can succeed, but if personal or party interests dominate, even the strongest system weakens. He cautioned the youth to always prioritise national interest. He said the Constitution has a balance of both rigidity and flexibility, which keeps it relevant with the times. Speaking about the functioning of the Constituent assembly, he said that despite serious differences, all decisions were taken by consensus while maintaining the dignity of the House. He said that today's public representatives should also follow the same decorum and discipline so that democracy can be further strengthened. He called upon the youth to understand the changing global scenario and explore new opportunities for themselves through innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development. He said that in the coming years, India will be among the world's leading powers, and the role of youth will be the most important in this. In conclusion, he said that along with rights, fulfilment of duties is also essential. He said that duty is the cornerstone of nation building, and every citizen should remain vigilant about their duties.During this, Speaker Harvinder Kalyan said today's conference is extremely important for increasing awareness among the youth and connecting them with the democratic system. He said there was extensive discussion in the conference on the principles of the Constitution, constitutional values, the role of the legislature, and the duties of citizens, which is essential for the holistic development of the youth. Paying tribute to the Constitution makers and freedom fighters, he said that it is because of their sacrifice and penance that the country stands today as a strong democracy. He stated that such events are part of the resolve of the country's leadership, under which every citizen, especially the youth, should become responsible and aware.
