CHANDIGARH: Gurnazar Chattha can skate as smoothly as he belts out his favourite numbers. The 26-year-old holds world records for skating 30 hours non-stop (covering 720km) and playing in 30 and 50-hour nonstop inline hockey marathon matches. But it is singing that is taking him places now. The Zirakpur resident has penned six songs and sang three of them for a Punjab movie, 'Yaaran Da Ketchup', composed four songs for yet-to-be-released Punjabi movie "Nidhi Singh" and two for a forthcoming Bollywood movie.
Fate besides passion has played a key role in this sportsman's musical journey.
Gurnazar graduated in music from SD College in Ambala and was a regular in theatre. He started composing his own tracks. Later, the Jalandhar-born youth started singing as a part-time job. He was also part of a band. Initial phase included performances in PEC festival and at Leisure Valley. Soon, Gurnazar was noticed and there was no looking back. Performing live is what gets him going.
"Though I have had really good days, everyday is not the same. If someone comes to hear you, they have a certain expectation and meeting that every time is difficult. They will not know the reason for a bad performance but will know that you couldn't match up to the standards," says Gurnazar on being asked about the difficulties that come in his way.
For Gurnazar, music is all about feeling and has no confinements. When he performs, it becomes a performance for people and not money. "It gives me great satisfaction when I see people singing along with me and dancing. That is a stress-less audience response!"
Gurnazar started writing lyrics in 2014. One of his most famous compositions, 'Nede Nede', was sung by Alisha Chinai.
