Chandigarh: Unidentified persons stole two purses containing Rs 30,000 and documents from a car after diverting the victim saying that the car was leaking oil. The incident took place in the Sector 38 market.
In her police complaint, Suman Sharma, a resident of Sector 23 said she had gone to the Sector 38 market with her daughter at around 2pm on February 8.

In the market, her daughter went to a shop while she waited in the car.
Meanwhile, she said that a teenager approached her and said that oil was leaking from the car engine. She said she kept sitting inside at first but later, another teenager came and said that oil was leaking from the car’s bonnet. This time, she stepped out of the car to check and found that some oil was leaking from the engine. When she went back, she found that her purse and that of her daughter were missing. The complainant said that her purse contained Rs 30,000 and a locker key. Her ATM card, Aadhar card, PAN card and other important documents were in her daughter’s purse.
Police registered a case of theft against the unknown accused. CCTV camera footage of the area is being scrutinised by the police. In another case, Gaurav Dahiya, who lives in a rented accommodation in Sector 21 with his friend, reported that his laptop and his friend’s mobile phone had been stolen while they were sleeping.
