Man found dead; family cry murder, police say suicide case

Hisar: A 24-year-old man, Ajay, died after sustaining a gunshot wound near a petrol pump on Mamera Road in Ellenabad area of Sirsa district late Wednesday night.Police said Ajay of Nimla village was allegedly involved with a married woman from a nearby village. While his family has alleged murder, police investigation indicates suicide. Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the woman's husband, her brother-in-law and three or four unidentified persons. A bottle of pesticide was also recovered near the body. Sirsa police spokesperson ASI Rajpal said Ajay, employed at a petrol pump, apologised for his alleged relationship following a village panchayat held around 15 days ago. On the day of the incident, Ajay allegedly reached the woman's house and fired shots, with two empty cartridges later recovered from the premises. The family allegedly attacked him with sticks in self-defence. Police suspect the youth later shot himself in the head. However, Ajay's family members alleged the woman's family assaulted him and attempted to project the case as suicide. They also questioned several aspects of the police version, including the recovery of pesticide near the body, missing motorcycle and pistol, and broken sticks found at the scene.
