Liquor smuggling racket busted

Chandigarh: The excise and taxation commissioner department seized 35,000 bottles of liquor being smuggled out of the city. A vehicle was intercepted at around 10:30pm on June 7 near IT Park lights by ETI Shaveen Jain along with staff of CIA Sector 11.During the search of the vehicle, 1,439 bottles of liquor, comprising 75 cases of IMFL, were confiscated on the spot. An FIR has been lodged against the vehicle driver.Investigations revealed that the stock was being sent outside Chandigarh from a godown located near the place of interception. The godown was traced in the morning and 34,608 bottles of IMFL were found there. No track and trace markings were found on the stock.FIR proceedings in connection with the godown recovery are in process.
