Kurukshetra intensifies road safety measures; Rs 4.65cr collected in fines in March
Kurukshetra: The Kurukshetra district administration has intensified road safety measures with strict enforcement against traffic violations, illegal road cuts and encroachments. The administration has also mandated safety protocols at road construction sites.According to official data, 17 people lost their lives in 38 road accidents recorded across the district in March.The police issued 17,835 challans last month and collected Rs 3.81 crore in fines. These included 10,155 for overspeeding, 1,716 for helmet violations, along with cases related to seat belts, mobile phone use while driving, drunk driving, lane violations, triple riding, wrong-side driving and lack of high-security number plates. Ten school buses were also penalised for violations.ADC Vivek Arya said the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) collected Rs 84.40 lakh in fines from 230 overloaded vehicles in March, and warned the violators of strict action. A dedicated team has been deployed for round-the-clock monitoring of overloaded vehicles, he added.Presiding over the monthly District Road Safety Committee meeting at the mini secretariat here, Arya instructed officials to ensure proper barricading at all road renovation sites to prevent accidents.He also called for streamlining of online challan systems on the NH-44 and NH-152D to curb overspeeding.Highlighting the safety concerns, Arya ordered the immediate closure of illegal cuts on highways and removal of encroachments. He stressed that no complaints should remain pending on the ‘Mhari Sadak' app, and directed the SDMs to submit reports on hit-and-run cases during the next meeting, while also notifying the hospitals.Police officials were directed to increase night patrolling, while a special drive was ordered to clear encroachments on the Ladwa road within a week to reduce accidents.The ADC also announced the formation of a committee comprising officials from PWD, municipal council, HSVP and public health engineering to address waterlogging issues.Additionally, demarcation work was ordered for a key road stretch near Lotus Green City to facilitate construction. Authorities also confirmed that a proposal for installing CCTV cameras between Dhand and Pehowa road stretch had been sent for approval.Officials said the district has been divided into East, West and Highway zones for better traffic management, with continuous monitoring by PCR units and traffic personnel.MSID:: 130609574 413 |
