In Fatehabad’s Kumhariya village, 2nd youth dies fighting for Russia

Hisar: Grief returned to Fatehadbad's Kumhariya village as the body of Vijay, a young man who had gone to Russia in search of a better life, was brought home and cremated on Wednesday, just days after another youth from the same village, Ankit Jangra, met a similar fate.The back-to-back deaths have left the village in shock, with families struggling to come to terms with the loss of two young lives caught in a distant war. Vijay's mortal remains reached Delhi on Tuesday, and his family rushed there before bringing him home for the last rites amid a sombre atmosphere.Family members alleged that both youths fell prey to an overseas job racket. Vijay had travelled in June 2025 after being promised a high-paying security guard job, while Ankit had gone earlier to study Russian and later took up work."They went with dreams of earning and supporting their families. Instead, they were trapped," said Raghuvir, Ankit's brother. He claimed they were made to sign documents in Russian, given basic weapons training and pushed into the conflict.The families said they knocked on every door for help — from embassies to ministries — but their sons never made it back alive.Villagers said Vijay had earlier returned from Russia after earning well, a factor that encouraged others to follow. Now, the same journey has brought back grief.
