Hisar: Prodded by court, Hisar SP Ganga Ram Punia has started a probe into the 2020 murder of a policeman’s wife and will file a conclusive and action taken report against the erring official on June 5. During the hearing of the case on March 21, the court had ordered IGP, Hisar range, to get the matter investigated by a senior IPS officer under his supervision.
On April 16, 2020, based on a complaint by the dead woman’s brother, Hisar City police station had registered a case against victim Rinku’s husband Vikram, a gunman to then Jind DSP Kaptan Singh.
When the matter reached court, it found discrepancies in probe. While police had claimed in its probe report that the woman had been killed with a blunt weapon, her postmortem revealed that she had been shot. However, police have not been able to find the gun or the pistol used in crime.
The court has directed the SP to fix the liability of cops who had influenced the investigation and visited the crime scene in April 2020. Advocate Manmohan Rai, who appeared on behalf of the prosecution, said in the interim investigation report submitted in the court on Monday, Hisar SP Gangaram Poonia said preliminary probe showed that 9 mm government pistol was issued to Vikram, and his gunman Kuldeep deposited the same on April 16, 2020, day of the murder.
