Himachal Pradesh sees surge in reservoir fish output
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh recorded a notable increase in fish production from its major reservoirs in 2025-26, benefiting over 6,000 fishermen across the state.Fish production increased from 549 metric tonnes in 2022-23 to 818 metric tonnes in 2025-26, marking a rise of over 268 metric tonnes. Pong Dam reservoir emerged as the top contributor, followed by Ranjit Sagar and other reservoirs, according to the state fisheries department.Fishing activities are currently underway in five key reservoirs – Gobind Sagar, Pong Dam, Chamera, Kol Dam and Ranjit Sagar – spanning around 43,785 hectares. These water bodies not only support livelihoods but also ensure a steady supply of protein-rich food.The growth is expected to significantly improve the socio-economic conditions of fishing communities in Bilaspur, Una, Kangra, Chamba and nearby regions, reinforcing reservoir fisheries as a vital source of income and employment, the department added.MSID:: 130605096 413 |
