Mohali: Advocate Gagandeep Jammu, former honorary secretary of the Punjab and Haryana high court Bar Association, escaped unhurt after unidentified assailants allegedly fired at his vehicle near Kurali in an apparent assassination attempt on Tuesday.
Sources said Gagandeep managed to escape the hail of bullets without suffering injuries.
SP investigation Saurav Jindal said, “We have registered an FIR against unidentified assailants. Police have found three bullet shells from the spot. Prima facie, firing seems to have been done using .38 bore weapon. Cause of the attack is unknown and is being investigated. The gun shots hit the rear side of the car in which the advocate was travelling.”
Gagandeep’s father Balwinder denied having enmity with anyone.
The incident sparked sharp reactions from the legal fraternity, with the Punjab and Haryana high court Bar Association strongly condemning the attack and demanding immediate action against those involved.
High Court honorary secretary Parampreet Singh Bajwa alias Harry said, “The Punjab and Haryana high court Bar Association strongly condemns the cowardly and heinous attack on our former honorary secretary Gagandeep Jammu, in which shots were fired with the intention to kill him. Thankfully, he escaped unhurt and is safe,” the statement said.
The Bar Association stated that such incidents are not merely attacks on an individual lawyer but an assault on the independence, dignity and fearless functioning of the legal profession.
