Haryana BJP unveils civic poll manifesto, targets ‘clean sweep’
Chandigarh: Aiming for a "clean sweep" in upcoming civic polls, the Haryana BJP on Wednesday released a 20-point common manifesto for municipal bodies, with a focus on green development and upgraded civic infrastructure.Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini unveiled the manifesto at the party headquarters in Panchkula, along with state BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli.Polling for municipal corporations in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat, along with other civic bodies in Rewari, Sampla and Uklana, will be held on May 10.Saini said the "triple-engine govt" would prioritise green urban spaces, improved sanitation, sewerage upgrades, modern parks, better roads and traffic management, CCTV surveillance, digitisation of civic services and resolution of stray animal issues.He said the manifesto was prepared after consultations with stakeholders and assured time-bound implementation of promises. "The manifesto is a commitment to the people and will be implemented in letter and spirit," he said.The party has also prepared city-specific manifestos based on local inputs, Badoli said.Saini claimed that of the 217 promises made during the 2024 assembly polls, 63 had been fulfilled and work was underway on the rest. He also criticised Congress governments in Himachal Pradesh and the AAP govt in Punjab over unfulfilled poll promises.Badoli termed the municipal elections an "important festival of democracy" and said the party was committed to delivering on its promises.Leaders from Cong, others join BJPSeveral leaders from Congress and other parties joined the BJP at an event held at Panchkamal in Panchkula. Those who switched sides included former CPS Raj Kumar Balmiki, Congress OBC leader Sanjay Parmar from Rohtak, and Hemant Kinger, a close aide of former deputy CM Chander Mohan. Former Panchkula mayor Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia and her husband, former zila parishad chief Dhanender Walia, were also among around 200 leaders who joined the party. BJP leaders assured them suitable roles in the organisation.
