Referring to historical and mythological references such as the Mahabharata, Ashwamedha Yagya, Maharana Pratap, and Shivaji, the governor said horses have been loyal companions of humans since ancient times, both during wars and in peaceful times. He said understanding our past is an important step towards safeguarding our present and future. He added that it was his first time attending such a horse show and it highlights the glorious past of India, where owning horses was considered a symbol of strength and prestige. He said horses were also used by the Army and police forces to help maintain law and order.Expressing concern, the governor said several breeds of horses are gradually becoming extinct, and therefore there is a strong need to preserve traditional breeds such as the Punjab and Kathiawari breeds.
He said, "It is a matter of pride that horses often protect and assist their caretakers, owners and riders even at the cost of their own lives. Horse breeders also take care of their horses like their own children. Although horse breeding has become an expensive passion today, the value of some horses runs into crores of rupees. Horse rearing is not only a demanding task but also a promising business".The governor expressed great happiness after witnessing the show. The main organiser, Prof Sumaer Singh Sira, informed that Punjab breed horses from across the state participated in the show. He said their mission and goal is to save the Punjab breed and that they are making every possible effort in this direction.MSID:: 129332915 413 |
