Global crude surge behind fuel price rise: Khattar

Hisar: Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Monday the recent rise in petrol and diesel prices was a global phenomenon triggered by escalating tensions and conflict between the US and Iran. He accused the opposition of indulging in "misleading politics".Khattar made the remarks while interacting with mediapersons after visiting the residence of former Haryana cabinet minister Dr Kamal Gupta in Hisar, where a fire broke out on Sunday evening. Khattar said several countries witnessed a sharp spike in petroleum rates following the US-Iran conflict, with prices reportedly doubling in some nations. "People must understand the global situation. Opposition parties are making baseless statements to misguide the public, but citizens are aware of the ground realities," he said. On power consumption, Khattar said India was currently producing around 274 GW of electricity and recorded a peak demand of 270.8 GW during the summer season. He maintained that there was no shortage of power in the country and that production capacity was continuously being enhanced to meet future demand. On the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, Khattar termed it a routine purification exercise and accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation. Referring to satirical political platform Cockroach Janata Party, he dismissed it as an attempt to promote "anarchism", asserting such experiments would not succeed. MSID:: 131310973 413 |
