ROHTAK: A man and his son were shot dead in a targeted attack at Baliyana village of Rohtak on Friday, in what is suspected to be a fallout of a 2024 murder case.
The incident created panic in the area.
The deceased have been identified as Dharamvir (58) and his son Deepak (22). According to information, Dharamvir was at his home while Deepak was sitting at a neighbour's house when the assailants opened fire at both locations.
Police sources said 4-5 youths allegedly entered the house and fired multiple shots at Dharamvir from close range. Thereafter, the assailants moved to a nearby lane where Deepak had gone to a neighbour's house. Without any warning, they opened fire on him as well.
Preliminary information suggested that Deepak's elder brother Sagar is currently lodged in jail on charges of murder. Last year, a youth from the same village was killed, and Sagar was named as an accused in that case.
Sources said Friday's double murder may be linked to that old case and could be an act of revenge, although the police have not given any official confirmation on the motive so far.
As soon as the firing took place, villagers informed the IMT police station. Police teams reached the spot and cordoned off the area. A forensic team was also called to collect evidence, including bullet shells and other material.
The two accused, who killed a man and his son at the Baliyana village of the Rohtak district on Friday, have been arrested.
Police received information that the accused were hiding in the Kharkhoda area of Sonipat. A team surrounded them near the Rohad toll plaza. The accused opened fire on the police, and the police retaliated. During the exchange of fire, the suspects identified as Himanshu were shot twice and the second accused Sunny once. Both who belong the same village- Baliyana of Rohtak, have been admitted to the Kharkhoda civil hospital.
The family already went through a major tragedy a few months ago when Deepak's mother allegedly consumed poison and died by suicide.
