Demand for release of Amritpal gains momentum
Majitha: The demand for the release of Khadur Sahib MP and president of the Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, Amritpal Singh, gained momentum during a panthic conference held at Majitha, here on Monday.Several leaders called for Amritpal's immediate release and urged the govt to allow the utilisation of the MP Local Area Development funds for his constituency.
Amritpal Singh is currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act (NSA).Addressing the gathering, Amritpal's father Tarsem Singh alleged that the Majitha constituency was long plagued by drugs, with recurring incidents of drug abuse and related deaths frequently coming to light. He said Amritpal consistently fought to eradicate the drug menace from Punjab.Tarsem Singh further claimed that there was immense enthusiasm among the people who wished to see Amritpal return and continue his campaign against drugs, as well as the Khalsa Vahir he had initiated to encourage youth to shun drugs and adopt Sikh values. He alleged that Punjab's traditional political parties betrayed the people for years, and the public was now looking for sincere and principled leadership rooted in panthic ideology.Tarsem Singh said Akali Dal Waris Punjab De was not merely a political party but a growing people's movement committed to safeguarding Punjab's rights, preserving the identity of the Sikh community and securing a better future for its youth. In a veiled attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Tarsem Singh said those involved in the drug trade, who treated Majitha as their stronghold and ruined the youth through drugs for years, would now face a strong response from the people."Saving Punjab's youth from drugs and restoring prosperity in the state is the need of the hour," he said.Shamsher Singh Padhri, an office bearer of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, said the release of Amritpal Singh was the party's major demand along with release of his MPLAD funds which could be spent on the development of Khadur Sahib constituency. He said the panthic gathering at Majithia was one of the major gatherings ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.Padhri also said Faridkot Member of Parliament Sarabjit Singh Khalsa would meet the Punjab governor with respect.Amritpal's mother Balinder Kaur and other party leaders were alo present.MSID:: 129334875 413 |
