Dallewal targets Pb leaders, says disunity hurt farmers’ movement

Jind: President of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), Jagjit Singh Dallewal, said that unity could not be achieved in the farmers' movement due to certain leaders of Punjab's farmer unions. He stated that the people of Punjab and Haryana always raised their voices against injustice and never accepted oppression. He added that the soil of Haryana gives birth to those who stand against injustice. Dallewal was speaking at a panchayat organised on the occasion of the Kisan Jagriti Yatra at Jat Dharamshala in Jind.Speaking about the proposed India–US free trade agreement, Dallewal termed it a major injustice against the country's farmers. He urged farmers across India to unite and launch a movement against the agreement. He said that for organisations genuinely fighting for a legal guarantee of MSP, farmers' debt waiver, and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report, he was ready to bow down in complete humility for the sake of unity.He said that during his hunger strike, he appealed to visiting farmer leaders to take charge of the movement, as farmers across the country awakened and were ready to fight for the MSP guarantee law.However, instead of uniting, on Feb 27, they put forward a condition to first withdraw the demand for the MSP guarantee law before any unity could be discussed. Dallewal asserted that the demand for an MSP guarantee law is paramount and non-negotiable. Speaking about Haryana's khaps, he said they advised that all farmer organisations should come together on 1 platform before the khaps would extend support. However, even after such an appeal, other farmer groups did not join the protest at the Khanauri border. In such circumstances, he said, the khap panchayats should not step back and should continue supporting the farmers.Dallewal addressed a farmers' panchayat organised on the occasion of the Kisan Jagriti Yatra at Jat Dharamshala in Jind.On the India–US agricultural trade deal, he alleged that if American products enter the Indian market, it would adversely affect future generations. He claimed that such products could contain harmful elements leading to serious health issues in children. He further alleged that the United States aims to capture India's agricultural land and is pressuring the govt through various tactics.He informed that on the 25th day, the Kisan Jagriti Yatra started from Kharkhoda and reached Jind. Before arriving in Jind, the yatra received a warm welcome at Kharkhauda Grain Market, Sisana, Gorad, Bhainswal Chowk, Gohana Vegetable Market, Nooran Kheda, and Lalit Kheda.Abhimanyu Kohar appealed to farmers across the state to gather in large numbers at Ramlila Ground, New Delhi, on March 19, so that the govt of India can be compelled to exclude the agriculture, dairy, and poultry sectors from the free trade agreement with the United States.After the farmers' panchayat, the yatra was warmly welcomed at Narnaund, Majra Pyau, Mayyar Toll, Kharar, Mirzapur, and Kajla.
