Rohtak: Amid rising LPG prices and an alleged shortage of cooking gas, the Congress district unit, along with its women's wing, staged a protest in Rohtak on Wednesday, with local residents also joining the demonstration. In a symbolic gesture to highlight the difficulties being faced by households, Congress women state president Pearl Chaudhary cooked rotis on a traditional chulha and expressed strong resentment against the govt. Protesters also burnt an effigy, raising slogans over price rise and supply issues.
Addressing the gathering, Pearl Chaudhary alleged that the BJP govt has burdened the common man by increasing gas prices, stating that people facing shortages are now being forced to purchase cylinders at higher rates.
She said the situation has "snatched food from the plates of citizens" and demanded the resignation of Union minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri, holding him responsible for the crisis. She also raised objections over certain gas-related agreements of the central govt.

Rohtak MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra said the rising cost of essential commodities has made life difficult for ordinary people, adding that due to the gas shortage, many households are being compelled to return to traditional cooking methods, which is a matter of concern.
Rohtak MLA BB Batra blamed the govt for the situation, stating that while claims are being made about adequate gas supply, people are still being made to stand in long queues, which he termed a result of "wrong policies." He added that issues such as Pakistan offering mediation are a matter of concern and reflect shortcomings in foreign policy.
Calling for strict administrative action, BB Batra urged authorities to act promptly on complaints related to gas supply, curb black marketing, and maintain strict monitoring of gas agencies. The protest was attended by MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra among others.
