Cong protests in Mohali; alleges vendetta politics

Mohali: Congress leaders and workers, led by former Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, held a protest against the AAP govt in Mohali Monday, alleging intimidation, lawlessness and misuse of power.The protest began in Sector 78, with workers marching towards MLA Kulwant Singh’s office in Sector 79. Police stopped the march midway, following which protesters staged a demonstration and raised slogans.Addressing the gathering, Sidhu accused the govt of vendetta politics and suppressing opposition voices. He alleged misuse of police machinery to target political opponents.As part of the protest, workers scattered brooms on the road, claiming it symbolised public rejection of AAP in the next assembly polls. Sidhu said people were disillusioned with the govt’s performance and unfulfilled promises.Referring to the arrest of a Congress worker in Tanda, he questioned the police’s priorities, alleging selective action, and also condemned the baton charge on PSPCL employees in Patiala.Sidhu claimed democratic values were being undermined and warned that the Congress would launch a statewide agitation if “politics of intimidation” continued.
