BJP announces 17 candidates for Mandi and Palampur civic body polls

Shimla: The BJP on Wednesday announced 17 candidates for the upcoming municipal corporation elections to 15 seats in Mandi and two in Palampur.For the Mandi civic body polls, the party fielded 12 new faces – Ranveer Singh from Khaliyar, Sarita Handa from Purani Mandi, Nirmal Verma from Paddal, Manju Devi from Nela, Krishna Thakur from Mangwain, Virender Singh Arya from Sanyard, Jitender Singh from Talyahad, Gurdeep Kaur from Palace Colony-1, Suman Thakur from Palace Colony-2, Neha Kumari from Suhra, Jitender Sharma from Samkhetar, Gagan Kashyap from Bhagwahan, Rajni Sharma from Thanehra, Gurbachan Singh from Behna and Rita Devi from Dohandi.For the Palampur municipal corporation elections, the BJP announced two candidates – Kirna Devi from Rajpur and Lata Devi from Holta. The remaining 13 candidates are expected to be announced soon.According to the election schedule, nomination papers for the municipal corporation poll in Palampur, Mandi, Dharamshala and Solan, as well as municipal council and nagar panchayat elections in other areas, can be filed on April 29, April 30 and May 2, from 11 am to 3 pm.Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on May 4, and the last date for withdrawing nominations is May 6. Polling will be held on May 17 from 7 am to 3 pm. The counting of votes for nagar panchayats and municipal councils will begin on May 17 after the completion of polling, while counting for municipal corporation elections will take place on May 31 from 9 am onwards.On Wednesday, the Mandi district administration notified 38 polling stations across 15 wards for the civic body elections. Returning officer and deputy commissioner Apoorv Devgan issued the ward-wise list, directing officials to ensure all necessary arrangements for smooth and hassle-free polling.Key polling locations include Kendriya Vidyalaya, govt schools, ITI Mandi, BDO office Bhyuli, cooperative department offices and the HPPWD establishments across different wards, the DC said in a statement.Multiple booths have been set up in bigger wards such as Khaliyar, Nela and Talyahad to manage voter turnout efficiently, Devgan added.MSID:: 130607725 413 |
